Jamal maul Russell 4-1
Dhaka, May 28: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd finished their Nitol-Tata Bangladesh Premier Football League at the top of the table 4-1 win over Sheikh Russell at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Jamal now have 42 points from 18 patchesm and will remain at the top before the third phase starts. Jamal has a lead of eight points from second placed Abahani Ltd. Russell 17 points from 15 matches.
Jamal took the lead in the 19th minute through their Haitian forward Sony Norde after skipper Mamunul Islam cut a defence splitting through pass to forward Wedson Ansleme who passed the ball to Sony, making his way between two defenders Sony Norde placed the ball in the near post (1-0)
In the 21st minute Sony’s Haitian teammate Wedson Anselme doubled the lead. Running past the Russell defence with a through pass of Sony, Wedson beat Biplob in the far post with an angular shot (2-0)
Sony put Jamal on a three goal cushion in the 31st minute after Gambian midfielder Zatta Mustafa fed him with a nice through pass and Sony scored with a grounder (3-0)
Jamal’s lead was extended to four in the 70th minute when substitute forward Shakahwat Rony passed the ball back to Wedson whose flatfooted shot hit the sidepost and landed in the middle of the net (4-0)
Russell midfielder Anwar Hossain reduced the margin in the 74th minute after Serbian forward Miroslav Savanovic floated a long ball to Anwar who beat his marker and Jamal goalie Ziaur Rahman with a placing shot (4-1).
Jamal beat Russell 1-0 in the first phase.
