Dhaka, May 31: Sheikh Russell beat Feni Soccer 3-1 in the second phase of the Nitol-Tata Bangladesh Premier Football League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Forward Md. Anwar put Russell ahead in the 8th minute after a combined attack. Midfielders Jewel Rana, Shakil Ahmed and Anwar played a one-touch game to get past the Feni Soccer defence and Anwar’s blasted home with a powerful left footer (1-0).
Russell kept the pressure on and doubled the lead in the 23rd minute through their young forward Md. Shumon. Defender Fozle Rabbi ran down the right back and cut a low cross to Shumon who flicked the ball in the far post (2-0)
Feni Soccer’s Gambian forward Kabba Jobe missed an open net in the 58th minute but in the 78th minute Gambian forward Mathew Mendy reduced the margin. Taking a forward pass of Kabba Jobe Mendy beat Russell goalie Biplob with a placing shot in the far post (2-1)
Haitian forward Pascal Millien added the third in the injury time as his left footer slipped off Soccer goalie Md. Nehal (3-1)
Russell took their tally to 20 points from 16 matches while Feni Soccer remained on their previous collection of 11 and completed second phase of 18 matches
