Dhaka, May 09: Abahani Limited Dhaka handed a huge 4 - 0 deafeat to Brothers Union in their Citycell Bangladesh League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today to take a giant step toward a hattrick title. After this win the league leaders increased their points to 61 from 21 appearances, nine more than their city archrivals Mohammedan who played one match less.
In the 11th minute Ghanaian recruit Awudu Ibrahim entered in the penalty area and took a powerful shot on the target which was blocked by the Brothers goalkeeper Iran Sheikh but Sheriff got the rebound and netted it successfully to put the sky blues ahead.
Sheriff then entered in the orange’s danger zone in the 18th minute and passed to Enamul who was unmarked in the box. Enamul doubled the lead with a low drive with his favorite right foot. It was his 18th goal in this league that retained the national striker’s top place in the goal scorers list.
Ghanaian forward Sherrif then headed home a Meshu cross from left three minutes before the half time to get his 16th goal of the competition.
Abul who replaced Sheriff in the 80th minute, scored just a minute later when the former national midfielder sealed the match from a pass by Meshu.
Brothers union lost their first leg match 1 - 0 to the sky blues, are now 5th in the table with 21 points.
In the day’s other match, Rahmatganj could not hold on to a 2 – 0 lead as they drew 2 – 2 with Shukhtara Jubo Sangshad at the Narayanganj Stadium. The old Dhaka side’s Ugandan striker Idris Kasirye gave his side the lead in the 20th minute and scored again in the 58th minute from a spot-kick.
In reply, the home side’s Rezaul and Mehedi Scored in the 64th and 74th minutes to equalize the match. After this draw, Rahmatganj’s point is 20 from same number of matches where as Shuktara are still in the red zone with 14 points from 20 clashes.< Prev | Next > |
