India edge past BD 2-1
Dhaka, October 19: India beat Bangladesh 2-1 in the group B of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
Bangladesh went ahead in the 20th minute off a penalty. Forward Krishna Rani was brought down inside the box by Indian defender Amrita Kumari and Sanjida converted the spot kick (1-0).
But Indian forward Roja Devi equalised in the 29th minute off another penalty. Bangladesh defence line comprising the Sharmila Bairagi, Masur Parvin and Khadija Akter Shima tried to form an wall in front of Indian forward Sushmita Bardhan and it crossed the eligibility, The Australian referee Katherine Margaret pointed to the spot and Roja hit the back of the net (1-1)
Bangladesh were reduced to ten players in the 64th minute when defender Masura Parvin was shown the red card for a foul on Indian midfielder Premi.
The resulting free kick saw Bangladesh concede the second goal. Kashmina, the Indian midfielder curved the ball from the edge of the box, Bangladesh goalie Ayesha fisted it but the ball landed into the feet of unmarked Roja who placed the ball in the 74th minute (2-1).
Bangladesh faces Iran in their last match while India will take on Jordan in the next match.
