Dhaka, May 10: Mohammedan Sporting Club came from a goal down to beat Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra 2-1 to keep their slim title hopes alive in the Citycell Bangladesh League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today.
After this win, the black and whites are now in the second position of the table with fifty-five points, six less than table-toppers Abahani, after 21 games. On the other hand, Sheikh Russel remained just behind Mohammedan with 47 points.
In the 9th minute, the Russel who had drew their first-leg match with Mohammedan, shocked the title contenders with Rajon Miah scoring off a pass from Moroccan forward Samir Omari.
Mohammedan, however, did not take long to come back as Nigerian booter Alamu Bukola equalised ten minutes later taking the advantage of the rival defensive error after he met a forward pass by captain Wali Faisal.
Emily became the second highest scorer of the competition along with Abahani’s Sheriff Deen Mohammed with sixteen goals when he scored the winning goal for Mohammedan in the 32nd minute. The national striker sped into the penalty area dodging three defenders and slammed home a powerful shot.
Abahani’s national marksman Enamul is still leading the goalscorers’ list with 18 goals.
Sheikh Russel dominated the second half and created some good chances but could make most of the situations as Samir was trapped off-side five times.< Prev | Next > |
