February 02: Bangladesh moved into semifinals beating Sri Lanka 1-0 in the
Bangabandhu Gold Cup group A match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on
Monday.
Bangladesh
started brightly and enjoyed the majority of the possession but could not force
a strike due to the strong Sri Lankan resistance.
In the 22nd
minute midfielder Vinsent Hemanto Biswas hit low volley on a cross of Sohel
Rana but the ball hit a Sri Lankan defender feet.
In the 32nd
minute midfielder Sohel Rana tapped a Raihan Hasan long throw just wide of the
side post.

Vincent Biswas put Bangladesh ahead in the 40th minute. Midfielder
Zahid Hossain cut a cross to forward Jahid Hasan Ameli who chested it down and
Hemanto hit the low volley into the net. (1-0)
In the 52nd
minute midfielder Zahid sent a ball to Hemanto who dribbled a Lankan defender
but he shot straight to Lankan goalkeeper Sujan Perera.
In the 67th
minute earned penalty when Bangladesh goalie Shahidul Alam brought down Lankan
forward Ishan and referee Khamis Mohammed of Qatar whistled for penalty. But
Lankan midfielder Roshan’s spot kick was saved by goalie Shahedul Islam.
Bangladesh
had chance to double the lead but Hemanto Vincent Biswas’s low shot was cleared
by defender Tharindu Eranga from the goalline in the 85th.
