Jamal retain premier title
Dhaka, July 30, 2015:
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club retained the title two match to spare when they
beat Mohammedan Sporting Club 3-2 in the 2nd leg of Manyavar
Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
In the first leg they
played out a 1-1 draw with Mohammedan.
Sheikh Jamal created the first chance to go ahead but Nigerian forward Emeca Darlington’s
shot missed the post by a whisker in the
2nd minute.
In the 6th
minute Mohammedan midfielder Habibur Rahman Shohag saw his free kick hit the
crosspiece.
Shohag’s another free
kick from the edge of the box was saved by Jamal goalie Shahidul Alam Sohel in
the 29th minute.
Emeka Darlington put
Jamal ahead in the 33rd minute. Captain Mamunul Islam curved a
corner from the right flag and Emeka darlington headed the ball into the far
post. (1-0)
Mohammedan leveled
the score in the 39th minute through their forward Jewel Rana.
Guinean forward Ismael Bangoura sent a cutback to Jewel who placed the ball into
the net with a delicate touch. (1-1)
Mohammedan took lead
in the 45th minute. Forward Ismael Bangoura’s header landed in the
far post on a cross of Arup Baidya from the right flank. (2-1)
After the restart `Mohammedan
could have been extended the lead in the 46th minute but Jewel Rana
squandered the chance having one on one situation with goalie Sohel.
However Haitian
forward Wedson Anselme of Sheikh Jamal restored the parity in the 55th
minute as his header on a cross of Emeka Darlington beat Mohammedan goalie Rana
in the middle of the post (2-2)
Landing Darboe sealed
the victory for Sheikh Jamal and scored the third goal in the 75th
minute. The Gambian midfielder scored the goal from a free kick from the edge
of the box. (3-2)
With this win Jamal
took their tally to 45 points from 18 matches while Mohammedan remained their previous earning of 34 points from 18
matches.
