Jamal finish beating Abahani
Dhaka, August 22: Champion
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited finished their Manyavar Bangladesh Premier
League race with a 2-1 win over Abahani Limited at the Bangabandhu National Stadium
on Saturday.
Abahani finished the
match with 10 players with forward Wahed
Ahmed sent-off in the 85th minute and defender Mamun Mia was shown the
Red card after 90+2 minute for non-sporting gesture.
Abahani came close to
a strike in the 31st minute when their Nigerian forward Sunday
Chizoba sneaked past the Jamal defence with a through pass of midfielder
Shahedul Alam, but his left footer from a close range flew past the side post.
Jamal’s Gambian
midfielder Landing Darboe curved a free kick from 20 yards out in the 61st
minute, the ball beat Abahani goalie Ziaur
Rahman in the air but much to the dismay of Landing, whiskered over the
crosspiece.
The deadlock was
broken in the 65th minute and it was overlapping defender Nasirul
Islam who struck the net for Abahani. Carrying a through pass of midfielder Shahedul
Alam, Nasir blasted a right footer into the far post net (1-0)
Jamal equalized in
the 69th minute with Gambian midfielder Landing Darboe cutting an
angular pass to Nigerian Emeca Darlington who placed the into net from the
middle of the box. (1-1)
Landing Darboe sealed
the victory in the 89th minute of the match. Emeca Darlington
chipped a ball to Landing whose volley hit up of the net from the box. (2-1)
With the win Champion
Jamal finished the league top with 51 points from 20 matches while Abahani finished
fourth of the table with 35 points from 20 matches also.
