Brothers stun MSC
Dhaka, 21 April 2016: Brothers Union Limited stunned
down Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited 3-2 in the Group A match of KFC
Independence Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. With the loss
Mohammedan, the defending champions crashed out of the meet with six points
from five matches. Brothers also completed their campaign with six points from
five matches.
Brothers Union came close to a goal in the 2nd
minute when Nigerian forward Nkowcha’s shot was saved by Mohammedan goalie Md. Nehal diving to the
right.
Mohaammedan has a chance to take the lead but
Ismael Bangoura’s shot was cleared by Brothers captain Ibayed Hossain Komol.
Two minutes later, Brothers also had a chance
to move ahead but Kingsley’s shot was goalline saved by defender Poumi Landry.
In the 23rd minute forward Tawhidul Alam Shabuz saw his header hitting the
crosspiece a cross of Masuk Mia from
the right flank.
In the 42nd minute Midfielder Biplu
Ahmed shot was fisted by Brothers goalie Uttam Barua.
However, Mannaf Rabby put Brothers ahead in the
51st minute when he headed home a cross of Ghanaian midfielder Awudu
Ibrahim that was curved from the left flank. (1-0)
One minute later it was Mannaf Rabby again who
struck the second, taking a deflection of Nkowcha Kingsley Mannaf Rabby hit the
far post net from the right edge of the box. (2-0)
Mohammedan reduced the margin in the 54th
minute through forward Tawhidul Alam Shabuz who capitalized the late reaction
of Brothers defence and placed the ball middle of the net. (2-1)
Mohammedan equalized the score through their
forward Biplu Ahmed in the 66th minute. Forward Tawhidul Alam Shabuz
sent square pass to unmark Biplu who placed the ball into the net. (2-2)
Brothers was again in the lead in the 75th
minute of the match. Ghanaian forward Awudu Ibrahim scored the third goal
beating Mohammedan goalie Md.
