Muktis upset Ctg Abahani
Dhaka, 13 June 2016: Muktijoddha Sanghsad KC upset Chittagong Abahani
Ltd 1-0 in the Group B match of Walton Federation Cup at the Bangabandhu
National Stadium on Monday.
The first half was a barren affair with both the teams lacking the
finishing touch. Chittagong Abahani lacked the finishing bites of their Haitian
forward Leonel Preux who was rested and Muktijoddha relied on their Nigerian
forward Ahmed Kolo Musa who was closely watched by the Chitagong Abahani
defenders.
However in the 11th minute it was Kolo Musa who came close to a strike
when his head on a cross of his compatriot Simon Ezeodka was punched for a
corner by Abahani goalie Ashraful Islam Rana.
Chittagong Abahani hardly bothered the opposition defence and late in
the first half Mamunul Islam's long ranger was duly grabbed by Muktijoddha
custodian Mamun Khan.
In the 58th minute Muktijoddha custodian Mamun Khan pulled
out a good save denying Ctg Abahani’s midfielder Rubel Mia’s shot from the box,
the ball fed by Mumunul Islam.
Muktijoddha’s Nigerian forward Ahmed Kolo Musa almost came to a goal
in the 75th minute when his curving left footer from the middle of
the box deflected of defender and became a corner.
Substitute Md. Robin broke the deadlock for Muktijoddha in the 82nd
minute. Ahmed Kolo Musa sent a lob to Robin who placed the ball past on rushing
goalie Ashraful Islam Rana into the net. (1-0)
In the last minute of the match Nigerian defender Simon Ezeodika
fouled Ctg Abahani substitute Haitian forward Leonel Preux in the box and referee whistled for a penalty. Tarik El Janabi failed to score from the spot.
With this win Muktis earned 3 points from their first match while Ctg
Abahani remained with one point from 2 matches.
