Jamal, Ctg Abahani share points
Dhaka, August 5: Sheikh Jamal and Chittagong Abahani shared the points in a goalless draw in the first match of the Mymensingh edition of the JB Bangladesh Premier League at the Rafikuddin Stadium on Friday.
Sheikh Jamal started brightly with Haitian midfielder Landing Darboe dancing down the left right flank before cutting a nice cross at the middle of the box, but two Jamal forwards Enamul Haque and Emeka Darlington missed the line of the ball.
The match saw two quick deadly attacks in the 21st and 22nd minute. On the first occasion ÂÂ Landing Darboe again provided a cut back that was blocked by diving Chittagong Abahani goalie Ashraful Islam Rana, Jamal midfielder Rakib Sarker got the rebound and placed the ball forward, however Rana made a quick recovery to kick the ball to safety.
On the counter attack Chittagong Abahani forward Rubel Miah, with his quick footwork made his way through the Jamal defence and even went past goalie Maksudur Rahman Mostak, but his angular placing shot was cleared from the goalline by defender Yasin Khan.
In the 69th minute substitute Jamal forward Wedson Anselme curved a free kick from the edge of the box but Abahani custodian Rana again pulled out a diving save but with a expense of a corner.
In the 79th minute Landing made his way through the Abahani defence carrying a through pass of Wedson Ansleme but much to the frustration of the Gambian and Jamal, the ball rebounded off the side post.
Emeka Darlington let his team down in the 86th minute when he failed to tap a Wedson cutback from handshaking distance.
Chittagong Abahani has eight points from four matches while Jamal has six from the same number of matches.
