Dhaka prevail in Abahani duel
Dhaka, 02 November 2016: Dhaka Abahani Limited edged past Chittagong
Abahani Limited 2-1 in the second phase of JB Bangladesh Premier League at the
Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Ctg Abahani had a chance to move ahead in the 45th minute
of the match when Leonel Saint Preux dodged past two players and entered into
the box with the goalkeeper to beat but suddenly Wali Faisal interfered his
goal-bound shot inside the box to rescue Abahani from conceding the lead.
In the 50th minute Abahani’s winger Jewel Rana made his way
through the Ctg abahani defence and found goalie Ashaful Islam alone under the
post, however his chipped effort miss the side post.
Ctg Abahani Haitian forward Leonel Preux missed a penalty in the 55th
minute of the match. A cracking shot of Zahid Hossain was blocked by Dhaka
Abahani goalie Shakil, the rebounder was taken by Ctg abahani forward Md.
Ibrahim hit the hand of defender Samad Yousuf that result penalty. Leonel’s
spot kick hit the sidepost.
Abahani took the lead in the 67th minute. English forward
Lee Tuck curved a corner form right flag in the box where Nigerian forward Sunday
Chizoba headed the ball into the far post net. (1-0)
It was Lee Tuck who doubled the lead in the 70th minute
with a cool finish. Sunday sent an angular through pass between the ÂÂÂÂ two defenders to Lee who placed the ball into
the net with a delicate chip past goalie Rana. (2-0)
Dhaka Abahani and Ctg Abahani were reduced to 10 men in the 83rd
minute when Mamun Mia of Dhaka Abahani and Md. Biplob of Ctg Abahani sent off.
Ctg Abahani reduced the margin with a penalty shot in the 89th
minute. Midfielder Emon Mahmud brought down Leonel in the box and referee
pointed the spot kick. Zahid converted the spot kick. (2-1)
After the win Dhaka Abahani took their tally to top of the table with
26 points playing 12 matches while Ctg Abahani remained with 24 points also
playing 12 matches.
