Dhaka, December 31: The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has recently launched the third phase of a development plan that had begun in 2008. The first two phases of this plan to enhance every aspect of the game were driven by the belief that competition drove development.
Eight years later, the football federation, which is the highest football authority in Bangladesh, is ready to step up on the development path with the third phase that is expected to see Bangladesh’s football through 2020 and beyond.
Football development is a key function of BFF. In addition to player development, BFF provides education and accreditation programmes for the development of coaches and match officials.
In keeping with the goal of developing football, the football federation hopes to engage and enrich the next generation of teachers, players and coaches along with all the stakeholders of the game.
The Phase 3 plan illustrates the game’s priorities over the next four years looking ahead much beyond that. Football development is expected through strengthening the following eight pillars:
- Referee Development
- Medical and Sports Science
- Professional Clubs & Leagues
- Elite Player Development
- Women's Football, Grassroots
- Coach Education
- Development and Competitions
A few of the goals that the BFF has set itself for 2017 include Elite Youth Development at three age levels — U14, U16 & U19. Residency programmes for these groups along with international competition will be a top priority to ensure a consistent youth development model, structure and competition.
Then comes the U18 Youth competition for the BPL/BCL professional clubs.
Besides a grassroots education programme for coaches; there will be grassroots festivals at different age levels (U12, U14, U16, U18) in the districts, sub districts.
Grassroots development will be a key area focus for 2017 and to that end the BFF will arrange countrywide football tournaments for U16, U19 and senior groups at schools, districts and divisions.
