Bangladesh’s national football team is looking ahead for a fresh start in 2017 hoping for more success. Some local players have managed to catch the attention despite the dominance of foreign players.Â
Here is a list of some players who have outshined others this year and are worth looking out for.
Jewel Rana
If you are a Dhaka Abahani fan, you must remember his stunning performance against Sheikh Jamal. Jewel made two assists in stoppage time which gave his team a 3-2 win.
The 20-year old right winger burst onto the field in his first year of professional career in 2013, when he scored 3 goals in the Super Cup and became a joint top scorer. A talented player with strength that belies his diminutive frame, Jewel has already played for top clubs like Dhaka Mohammedan and Sheikh Jamal. He has scored 4 goals in the JB Premier League with many vital assists.
Seeing the depth of his talent, former Bangladesh coach Lodewijk de Kruif included Jewel in the national team in 2015. He made his debut at an international friendly against Singapore on 30 May 2015 but his best performance came against Tajikistan during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification where the player was adjudged man of the match. Jewel can be a bright prospect to the strife-ridden Bangladesh senior team.
Tawhidul Alam Shabuz
While the national team lacks world class forwards, Shabuz can be an ideal find as the Mohammedan forward has already scored 8 goals in the premier league. With Mohammedan fighting to avoid relegation, Shabuz saved his team several times to stay in the league.
Shabuz was a constant cause of problems for other teams playing against Mohammedan but lack of support from the mid-field held back his potential tally.
Bangladesh national team is crying out for someone who can find the net and Shabuz will surely be a player to be reckoned with in the upcoming year.
Saad Uddin
Playing for Dhaka Abahani in the Premier League, Saad did not have much playing time. Despite that, he made his name scoring a goal in the tournament. He can play in a number of midfield positions and his blend of speed, power and vision certainly bodes well.
Saad showed his talent for the first time in U-16 SAFF championship. His heroic performance helped Bangladesh win the title. Under the tutelage of veteran George Kottan in Abahani and team mates like Lee Tuck, Sunday Chizoba, Saad is surely a player to watch out for, in upcoming years.
MD Sajidur Rahman Sajid
Despite playing in a comparatively weaker team, Arambagh forward Sajidur Rahman Sajid still managed to catch the attention with his skills and ability of netting the ball. The versatile footballer who can play as a forward, winger or even a midfielder, has scored 8 goals so far in JB BPL 2015-16. No other player of his team has scored as many goals. That he is among the leading scorers among domestic players in the JB BPL indicates his scoring ability. The forward is also capable of delivering vital square passes which makes him one of the most valuable Bangladeshi players, especially in the ongoing premier league.
