Dhaka, February 8: A former player of the famous Barcelona Football Club, Gonzalo Sanchez Moreno is excited and happy to join the Bangladesh Football Federation as its head of player development.
Gonzalo Sanchez, who used to play in the famous Spanish club’s B league second division team, visited Savar BKSP on Wednesday to tour the facilities where the senior national team is going through a conditioning camp.
BFF technical director Paul Smalley who accompanied Gonzalo said the Spaniard would be contributing to the identification and selection of age group players but his primary task would be to steward the U19 players. Gonzalo would also be involved in grooming U16 footballers.
Looking forward to his new role in his second stint in Bangladesh, Gonzalo said, “I think the talent is out there. We need better methods of spotting them.”
Formerly an assistant coach and then coach of the Bangladesh team, Gonzalo said he was happy to be working with the entire BFF team in his new role.
Having grown up through one of the best player development formats in the world, Gonzalo saw his football career shortened by injury and took up coaching.
Paul Smalley made it quite clear that Gonzalo was being brought in a second time in a completely different role than that he had the first time. “I can say we have recruited one of the best elite youth football developers.”
Paul said his new colleague had worked with a range of players who are currently gracing the stadiums around the world.
