Dhaka, February 9: Impressed by the performance of U16 women’s team’s performance, the Bangladeshi ambassador to Japan sent a letter of commendation to the Bangladesh Football Federation.
A graduate of Tufts University in Massachusetts in the United State, Rabab Fatima said in her letter of February 1, “We are all delighted by the outstanding performance of the Bangladesh U-l6 Women's National Football Team in Japan.”
Bangladesh U16 girls team had gone to play in a football festival in the old Japanese capital of Osaka. The J Green Sakai academy had professional teams participating in the tournament where Bangladesh’s youngsters played seven games, winning four, losing 1 and drawing 2.
A career diplomat of 33 years, Rabab Fatima congratulated both the young team and commended the Bangladesh Football federation for promoting women’s football.
Addressed to BFF president, Kazi Salahuddin, the letter stated that everyone present there appreciated the “good fight put up by our team and the skills they demonstrated”.
The Bangladeshi envoy adds, “I gathered that J-GREEN Clubhouse even made an immediate offer to some members of the team.”
Playing in temperatures below 10 degrees, the Japan trip was a unique experience for the young women who form the core of Bangladesh national women’s side and were instrumental in securing the runners-up position in the last SAFF championship. This team has also secured a position in the top eight teams of Asia. The finals are scheduled in September.
Her Excellency said she wished all the success for Bangladesh U16 team. “I have every confidence that they will play in the next U17 Women’s World Cup.”
