Dhaka, February 16:The second edition of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football will kick off on Saturday (February 18) at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong.
Alga Bishkek FC of Kyrgystan will be facing South Korea’s Pocheon Citizen Club in the inaugural match on the same day.
Participated by eight teams, the 13-day long football bonanza is expected to be inaugurated by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
Ahead of the tournament, a press conference was held at the port city on Thursday where Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, MP, who is also member secretary of the tournament organizing committee said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to be present at the final match of the tournament as the chief guest.” He also informed the press that all the eight participating teams and match officials have already arrived at Chittagong.
Named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's eldest son and eminent sports organizer martyred Sheikh Kamal, the tournament is approved by FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and organized by the Bangladesh Football Federation in association with Chittagong Abahani Ltd.
All the matches of the tournament will be played at Chittagong's MA Aziz Stadium -- from the inauguration on February 18 to the final match on March 2.
In this edition of the tournament, the eight club teams including five foreign teams that will be fighting for the prestigious trophy are: Shaheen Asmayee FC (Afghanistan), Manang Marshyangdi Club (Nepal), TC Sports Club (Maldives), Pocheon Citizen Football Club (South Korea), FC Alga Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Dhaka Abahani Limited, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited.
