Dhaka, February 17:With the second edition of Sheikh Kamal Int’l Club Cup starting Saturday, organizers have taken a unique approach to increase tournament’s outreach.
In a press conference on Thursday, tournament committee members informed that they would use helicopters for promoting the competition. Starting from Friday, the promotion will continue till the end of the tournament.
MA Latif MP, Co-chairman of the tournament committee, Secretary General of Tournament’s Organising Committee Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, MP, Chief Coordinator of the tournament and Managing Director of the meet’s sponsor Saif PowerTec Tarafder Ruhul Amin and Media Committee Chairman Ali Abbas also spoke at the press meet.
Meanwhile, the price of tickets for the tournament was fixed at Tk 100 for pavilion, and Tk 50 for gallery for the first round group matches. The price will be Tk 200 and 100 for the semifinals while it will be Tk 500 and 300 respectively for the final.
The champion team will receive US30,000 as prize money while the runner-up will get US10,000. There are also awards for best player, best goal scorer and fair play category.
Participated by eight teams, including five foreign teams, the 13-day long football bonanza will kick off on Saturday with Kyrgyzstan’s Alga Bishkek FC and South Korea’s Pocheon Citizen Club clash.
All the teams Shaheen Asmayee FC (Afghanistan), Manang Marshyangdi Club (Nepal), TC Sports Club (Maldives), Pocheon Citizen Football Club (South Korea), FC Alga Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Dhaka Abahani Limited, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited have already arrivedÂÂ the port city.
With high hopes on defending champion and hosts Ctg Abahani, remaining two Bangladeshi clubs await to prove their worth as the tournament forecast a 13-day football frenzy.
