Dhaka, February 19: Reigning champions Chittagong Abahani Ltd. started their Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2017 campaign with a bang in a 3-1 victory over Afghanistan’s Shaheen Asmayee FC on Sunday evening.
In their home ground of MA Aziz Stadium, Ctg. Abahani started the game in an attacking mood with Haitian forward Augustin Walson and Nigerian Kingsley Chigoze.
Walson drew first blood for the home side in the 24th minute when skipper Mamunul Islam slipped a clinical through ball to the Haitian who placed the ball inside the far post (1-0).
Kingsley doubled the margin in the 40th minute.
Walson -- the provider this time around -- paved the way for Kingsley in the left edge of the box who completed the job with right footed shot (2-0).
Nasir Hossaini of Shaheen Asmayee reduced the deficit from a goal mouth melee in the 58th minute (2-1).
However, Walson made sure that the sky blues came away with all three points in the 84th minute after Jamal Bhuiyan’s forward pass sneaked past the defence line with Walson tapping the ball past the Afghan goalie (3-1).
