Dhaka, March 3: TC Sports Club of Maldives emerged as the champions of Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2017 beating Pocheon Citizen FC of South Korea 4-2 in penalty shootout on Friday.
The thrilling final, held at the M.A.Aziz Stadium, finished 2-2 at the end of stipulated and 30 minutes extra time.
Spirited TC Sports Club took the lead in the 19th minute off a spectacular header of Haneef Abdullah.
Hasan Niaz curved a corner from the right hand flag and Haneef headed the ball into the near post net with a thumping header (1-0).
The goal acted as the wakeup call for the Koreans who came out of the shell to torment the opposition defence in regular interval.
In the 36th minute, Park Jun Soo drove over the crosspiece. Two minutes later, TC goalie Kiron Chemjong dived full to hold a Jang Yong grounder but in the 44th minute, Jang Yong Ik restored the parity.
Following a Ji Keyong Deuk corner, Jang’s low header landed into the near post (1-1).
In the 54 minute, Park Seung Ryeol’s corner, floated from the right hand flag deflected from the head of TC defender Farrah Ahmed and flew into his own net (1-2).
However, TC refused to give up and rose on the occasion to restore the parity in the 83rd minute.
Azzam Mohamed’s powerful drive from the top of the box deflected into the net initiating wild celebrations in the TC tent (2-2).
The scoreline remained unchanged in the stipulated time throwing the match into extra time.
TC goalkeeper Nepalese international Kiron Chemjong turned out to be the hero stopping 2 penalty kicks of Pocheon.
In the end, TC Sports Club became champions of the second edition of the prestigious Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup beating Pocheon 4-2 in penalties.
The champions received a purse of US Dollars thirty thousand while the runners-up received US Dollars twenty thousand.
