Dhaka, May 4: BKSP emerged as the champions of 'Walton U18 National Football Championship 2017' beating Dhaka 4-2 in the penalty shootout in the final held at the Bangbandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
The stipulated time of the final match ended in a 1-1 draw that took the match to the extra time and eventually to the shootout.
The deadlock was broken by Dhaka midfielder Md. Rayhan in the 55th minute.
Midfielder Md. Ismail curved a precise corner from the right hand flag and Rayhan outjumped his marker to head the ball into the near post (1-0).
However, conceding the goal was the wake-up call for the BKSP players as they mounted pressure upon the opponents in the search of the equalizer and they did find it in style.
After a combined move from their own half, overlapping defender Jainal Abedin Dipu found the ball about thirty yards away from the goal, he unleashed a fierce left footer that beat Dhaka goalie Shahin Sarder in the far post (1-1).
BKSP and scorer Dipu was looking at the sky in the 78th minute when Dipu saw his free-kick ricochet off the crosspiece.
Minutes later, forward Rezaur Kabir wasted an easy chance blasting the ball away from the middle of the box.
With the scoreline locked at 1-1, the match went into the extra time.
In the second half of extra time Rezaur Kabir saw his precise head punched for a corner by substitute Dhaka goalie Emon Hawladar.
As the match went to penalty shootout, it was the BKSP kick-takers who held their nerve to beat Dhaka 4-2 and lift the title.
