Dhaka, May 5: Abahani Limited Dhaka are rejuvenated after the big win against India's JSW Bengaluru in the ongoing AFC Cup 2017 and the reigning BPL champions are hopeful that the win will reignite their season.
Dhaka’s sky-blues secured an unexpected 2-0 win on Wednesday, that too with 10 men, against a strong Bengaluru side who had registered a win against the Bangladeshi outfit by the same margin in the reverse fixture.
Abahani, inspired by the flair of a bunch of young booters, played eye-catching football during their victory against the Indian outfit at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
The win came at a crucial time for Abahani as people started to question the team's ability after 3 losses in a row in the AFC Cup.
This win, however, changes everything.
Now, confidence and self assurance are surging through each and everyone in the Abahani camp.
Though the win may not be enough for the Dhaka Giants to qualify for the next stage of the tournament, the BPL champions now believe that they can bring home some silverware in the upcoming season, starting with the Federation Cup.
Furthermore, the fact that young Bangladeshi players rose to the occasion to bring down a comparatively stronger opposition gave head coach Drago Mamic reasons to believe that they 'can'.
Besides, young Saad Uddin and Rubel Miya scored the two goals very late in the second half, a fact that stamps the team's character and spirit.
Abahani's Croatian coach Drago Mamic is happy with the win but has advised his players to keep their feet on the ground.
Meanwhile, Abahani's win on Wednesday was the reason of happiness for the football lovers all across Bangladesh.
People from all walks of life congratulated Abahani on their big win on social media, especially on Facebook.
Abahani, the only Bangladeshi flag bearers in the AFC Cup 2017 are grateful to the people of Bangladesh for their support and are committed to bringing positive results from their remaining matches of the prestigious international tournament.
