Dhaka, May 10: Bangladesh Football Federation held its first ever AFC Goalkeeping Coaching Level 1 Certificate Course under the guidance of AFC Elite Instructor Dean May on Wednesday.
The highly experienced goalkeeping coach, also the national goalkeeper development manager for the Australian football federation (FFA) was in Dhaka to kick off the 5-day specialised coaches’ course as part of BFF’s strategic development plan that commits to improve coach education.
BFF Technical Director, Paul Smalley, made sure Goalkeeping Coach Education was part of the federation’s programme this year.
The course features both theory and practical content under the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) guidelines specifically designed to train the goalkeeper coaches to teach basic techniques, plan effective training sessions and understand the role of the goalkeeper coach within the technical department.
BFF’s Head of Goalkeeping Development, Ryan Sandford, is delighted to have Dean May at the BFF House for 6 days to impart his vast knowledge and work with Bangladeshi coaches in the development of goalkeeping in Bangladesh. “This course will help professional clubs fulfil their licensing requirements.”
But more importantly Sandford stressed, “We need to train more goalkeeping coaches in the latest methods, using modern methodologies, which should raise the overall level of goalkeeping in Bangladesh.”
The level 1 certificate course is the first step in the specialisation of goalkeeping coaching courses available through the AFC.
