Dhaka, May 13: The domestic
football season of 2017 has started with the ‘Walton Federation Cup 2017’ on
Saturday.
The newcomers in the tournament, SAIF Sporting Club held reigning champions
Dhaka Abahani Ltd 1-1 in the first match of the season. Coincidentally, the
second match of the day with teams BJMC and Brothers Union Ltd saw the same
results.
BFF Senior Vice President Abdus Salam Murshedy inaugurated the tournament as
the chief guest. Sponsor group Walton’s additional director F.M. Iqbal bin
Anwar Dawn was present as the special guest on the occasion.
Apart from the powerhouses Abahani and Mohammedan, ten other clubs have
enrolled in the largest national tournament to create a pipeline for the national team.
An important feature of this season is the limited number of foreign players,
that will make the clubs depend on the locals. That means local boys will play more pivotal roles throughout the tournament.
Earlier, three foreign players could be included in each squad, but in 2017 that
has been brought down to just two players.
The matches will be played in the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Full fixture available at this link - http://bit.ly/2qcZp2U
