Dhaka, June 4: The senior head coach for Bangladesh national team and U23, Andrew Ord arrives today in Dhaka to take up his new role to take forward our football.
Ord said he was keen to meet the challenges head on. “Of course it is a great honour to lead a national team as you represent everybody who follows football in Bangladesh.”
The new national football coach arrived from Australia via Singapore late Sunday.
The 37-year old Australian who had been an assistant coach for Australia’s A League club Perth Glory, said he was looking forward to his new role in Bangladesh. “We need to instil some belief back into everybody who is part of football.”
In this task, Ord said he would need the help of other stakeholders too. “It is not just the players. I will need the help of local coaches who understand the culture of football and players in this part of the world.”
Andrew Ord places much importance on those around the field as well as those in it. “Fans need to see we are building towards an improved future so they can get excited about following the national teams again.”
He said, “I want fans to feel connected to the team and come to the stadium or watch on TV with genuine hope they will see a good performance. I am confident this can be done.”
The BFF finalized Ord’s appointment on May 17 pending formalities.
The new head coach played semi-professionally for several years as a central defender in non-league football before deciding to take up coaching quiet early. Ord has held several roles in youth development. He emigrated to Perth in 2006 where his good work produced many players who have gone on to represent Australia.
Ord developed an Academy with Yangon United as owner Tay Za created the first full-time youth program in Myanmar before moving back to Western Australia alongside Gareth Naven with Perth Glory in the National Youth League.
