Dhaka Jan 31: Rahmatganj MFS and Chittagong Mohammedan won their respective matches in the sixth round of the Grameenphone Bangladesh League today in Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar.
Rahamatganj edged pass Chittagong Abahani 1-0 at the BSSM Mostafa Kamal Stadium while Chittagong Mohammedan recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against Farashganj at the Cox’s Bazar Stadium.
Nigerian striker Paul Mcjam scored the all important goal for Rahamatganj in the 36th minute when he pushed home over the rival goalkeeper after a pass by Ugandan striker Idris Kasirye.
The traditional sky-blues from Chittagong, dominated the show but they failed to convert numerous chances to drop points.
In the other match, striker Sohel Rana put the visitors ahead after 10 minutes. But the home side pulled off two goals in quick succession through forward Khaled and veteran Forhad to register their second win in the league.
Chittagong Mohammedan came back in the match when Khaled equalised in the 46th minute from Sujon’s cross.
Forhad sealed the victory for the port-city black and whites five minutes later from a pass of Liberia midfielder Clatus Blamo.
Rahamatganj moved to 10 points with three wins and one draw while Chittagong Abahani remained bottom of the 12-team table two points from two draws.
On the other hand, Chittagong Mohammedan have seven points from six matches with two wins and one draw while old Dhaka’s Farashganj obtained six points from two wins including one against defending champions Abahani.
Rahamatganj coach assistant Nasir felt relief after the marginal victory. “I am happy with the boys’ performance. They made many mistake and missed many opportunities but at last they left field with win. We hope, we will do better next.” said the winning team coach.
Chittagong Mohammedan manager Mohammed Yusuf was happy after winning the game. “We badly needed this win. It will make us more confidence. We hope, we will keep this tempo in the next matches,” said the winning team manager.
