Dhaka Feb 11: Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra returned to the top in the point table of Grameenphone Bangladesh League as they recorded a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against Chittagong Abahani Limited in the eighth round at the BSSM Mostafa Kamal Sadium Kamalapur today.
After a draw with Champion Dhaka Abahani Limited in the seventh round, the Dhaka giants found themselves in trouble when striker Tauhidul Islam put the port city club ahead after 30 minutes.
However, Mukti pulled off three goals in quick succession through Sudanese striker James Joseph Saeed Moga, Sk. Alamgir Kabir Rana and Rajoni Kanto Bormon to register their six win in the league.
However, Taohidul broke the deadlock with a marvelous goal as his long range rainbow shot defeated rival goalkeeper Biplob on back pass of Nigerian striker Peter Akinkunmi after intercepting from rival defence.
The freedom fighters came back in the match last minute of the first half when Sudanese striker Moga’s free kick defeated rival goalie Niloy to level the score.
Rana put Mukti lead in the 55th minute when he pushed on a rebound after Abahani’s rookie goalkeeper Niloy failed to hold on to a header by Nigerian striker Bukola on a cross of Moga from left side of the box.
Defender Rajani sealed the victory with his third goal in the league for all reds in the 62nd minute by a headed goal on a rebound after rival goalie fell short to clear of Moga’s free kick from 35 yeards.
The sky blues got several chances to level the match but all their efforts went in vain due to lack of good finishers.
Nigerian striker Peter reduced the margin for the Abahani in the injury time when his shot from a through of Sumon Day kissed the net.
The win put Muti leader of the table with 19 points having six wins and one draw while Chittagong remained bottom having two draws.
Muktijoddha coach Maruf was not satisfied with his boys’ performance because they looked relaxes after scoring three goals. " Our target was to returned the top of the point table. We did so but I am not satisfied the way my boys played with a bottom team. They should more professional after scoring three goals,” said the winning team coach.
