Kuwait City: Goals either side of half-time were enough for Kuwait to record a 2-0 victory over Bangladesh in the first leg of their 2012 Olympic Games first round qualifier at Al Qadsiya Club Stadium on Wednesday.
Kuwait struggled to break through the Bangladesh backline in the first half but just as it was looking as though the South Asians would be going into the break on an even keel with the home side, Hamad Rashed broke the deadlock just two minutes from the interval.
The Kuwait skipper’s goal no doubt altered the half-time team talk of Bangladesh coach Robert Rubcic but whatever the 47-year-old Croat told his players during the break it took a while to sink into his young charges, who conceded for a second time two minutes into the second-half, with Nasser Mubarak adding the second for the home side.
Bangladesh, to their credit, held out for the remainder of the match but Rubcic will have concerns over the concentration level of his players going into the second leg at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on March 9.
