Dhaka, Mar 13: Frank steered Dhaka Abahani Limited to the top of the Grameenphone Bangladesh League when they defeated their archrival Mohammedan Sporting Club by a solitary goal today.
After this win, Ahahani moved to the top with 26 points from eleven round while Mohammedan kept seventh position with 13 points at the same number of matches.
Abahani took the early charge as Frank broke the rival defence and enter into the danger zone to give the ball to Rony from Anwar through passed but rival defender Ramjan saved Mohammedan clearing the ball in the 6th minute.
Ghanaian midfielder Twum Frank scored all important goal for Abhahani in the 65th minute with a solo effort when his power full long range left foot shot from 25th yards defeated rival goalie Titimir Chowdhury Titu.
Earlier, Mohammedan got a couple of chances but all their efforts went in vain due to lack of finishers.
Anower could put the Mohammedan lead in the 22th minute of the match but his left foot shot from a pass of striker Emeka hit the cross bar.
Mohammedan foreign recruit striker Emeka missed an easy chance in the 53 minutes but his shot from a long pass of Hasan Al Mamun went through rival goalie Shahidul Alam Sohel.
The winning team's coach Ali Akbar was very happy with whole team's performance before departure for home as his contact finished but all hope it will be renewed. "You know Abahani and Mohammedan match always very competitive. both team played well. I am happy with the boys performance." said the Iranian coach.
Despite of the defeat, Mohammedan coach Shafiqul Islam Manik also satisfied with his botters performances."I am happy with the performance our boys presented today. They played whole match and got several opportunities but did not avail them ," said former national team coach.
