Yangon, 25 March: Bangladesh bowed out of the AFC Challenge Cup when they lost 0-3 to Philippines in Myanmar today.
This is the second defeat for Bangladesh in the competition as they lost first match 0-2 to Palestine. Bangladesh beat Myanmar 2-0 in the last match.
Bangladesh got early chance to lead in the 12th minute but Zahid’s shot was brilliantly saved by Neil Etheridge.
Striker Ian Araneta opened the net for Philippines in the 40th minute of the match when his shot reached home after getting a ball from misunderstanding of Bangladeshi defenders.
Midfielder Aldeguer Angel Guirado Nieves made the score double for Philippines n the 53rd when his headed home off a corner.
In the 79th minute of the match, Philippines midfielder Aldeguer Angel Guirado Nieves scored third goal by a powerful shot.
Bangladesh coach Robert Rubcic blamed short preparation of the boys before coming here, "It is very normal for a team with only two days of training for such matches while Philippines trained for 3 months long together. That’s how an upcoming nation comes up. If we would got at least two weeks training time then
the result could be something else."
The Philippines head coach Michael Weiss Hans felt happy as his team reached next round," It was a very good game today. Our boys played really very striking and we got the victory. Bangladesh was very good and potential side but they could come up and sometimes they were disorganized and we took the chances."
In the other match Palestine won against Myanmar by 3-1 in the youth
training center stadium. Thus Palestine and Philippines qualify for the
final round of AFC Challenge Cup 2012.
Bangladesh team will arrive in Dhaka on 26 March by Malaysian Airlines at night.
