Dhaka, Apr 19: Sheikh Russel confirmed last four in the Independence Cup Football Tournament as they defeated Soccer club Feni 3-1 at the BSSM Mostafa Kamal Stadium today.
Russian striker Eduard, Yusuf and Nigerian Duke scored for Sheikh Russel in the 21, 59 and 61 minutes respectively while Kabuye goal in the 48 minutes for Soccer Club.
Newly recruit Eduard Sakhnevich, scored in the last match, put Russel in the lead on 21 minutes by a solo effort. Taking a ball from the midfield, the tall striker moved forward dodging defenders of Soccer Club and opened the net from outside of box by a powerful curling shot.
The Soccer Club came back in the match early in the second half as their Ugandan striker Kabuye’s shot hit the back net on a pass of his fellow African Nigerian midfielder Nche Francis.
National caps midfielder Yusuf gave Sheikh Russel lead again in the 59th minute of the match by a sound header on a zero angle cross of Eduard.
Two minutes later, Efiong Duke sealed the victory for Russel from a penalty. Yusuf was brought down by rival midfielder Razib in the penalty area. Duke made from the spot kick.
The loser did not produce any significant attack after scoring the goal Russel’s midfields dominate rest of the match.
The winning margin could be more when match hero Eduard’s placing shot just edged past the post on a Yusuf’s cross from the right flank in the 65th minute.
