Dhaka, May 6: Table toppers Muktijoddha was held to a 1-1 draw by Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi in the Grameenphone Bangladesh League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
With both teams taking a cautious approach, the match finished goalless in the first half. However it was Sheikh Jamal who dominated the scenario with their attacking intentions. Stefan Loga Bouga the Cameroonian marksman of Sheikh Jamal came close to a strike in the 19th minute as his header off a Femi Orunimmi cross missed the sidepost by a few inches.
Sergio Fils Chico, another Cameroonian attacker in the Sheikh Jamal arsenal, failed to control a cross curved by Femi Orunimmi after it deceived Muktijoddha goalie Biplob in the air.
Sheikh Jamal took the lead in the 61st minute when left back Mishu danced down the left flank and curved a cross for Femi Orunimmi the right edge of the box and the Nigerian blasted the ball home with a powerful volley.
Speedy midfielder Zahed Parvez Chowdhury restored the parity just four minutes after entering the field as a substitute. Fed by James Moga who chested down a long ball form the midfield to Zahed who made his way in the defnce and drilled a low shot past Aminul in the far post with the watch showing 74 minutes of play.
Muktijoddha consolidated their position at the top with 32 points while Sheikh Jamal remained in the third position with 28 points. Both teams have played 13 matches.
