Young forward Shakahwat Rony put Dhaka Abahani ahead in the 21st minute. Defender Nazrul initiated a floater from the ring that duly found Awudu Ibrahim, the Ghanaian playmaker at the top of the box. Ibrahim shrugged off the challenge of his marker with a swerving turn and paved the way for Shakhawat Rony who blasted the ball home from the middle of the box (1-0).
Abahani was unfortunate in the 27th minute when midfielder Pranotosh saw his head rebounded off the Farashganj crosspiece. Pranotosh standing unmarked in the box, latched on punch of Farashganj goalie Shujon who cleared an Arup Baidya cross but was standing hapless when Pranotosh did his head act.
Nine minutes after the change of ends Twum Frank doubled the lead off a penalty. Defender Shaikat brought Pranotosh down in the box and Frank converted the spot kick 2-0.
The woodwork denied Farashganj in the very next minute when Sohel Rana’s fierce volley from the top of the six yard box rocked the Abahani crosspiece.
However a slip in the Farshganj defence, capitalized by Twum Frank sealed the fate of the match in the 58th minute. Awudu danced down the right flank and cut the ball back to Frank who beat Shujon with a delicate chip (3-0).
Sohel Rana, the rising star reduced the margin in the 71st minute with sparkling solo effort. Fed by Congolese attacking partner Siyo Zunapio Sohel ran through the defence and went past onrushing Abahani custodian Sohel before placing the ball into the empty net (3-1).
Twum Frank completed his treble in the 75th minute with a solo effort after dribbling past his marker he kept his cool to beat Shujon from a close range (4-1).
An unnecessary foul by Abahani’s Ghanaian defender Samad Yousuf over Siyo Zunapio prompted referee Azad Rahman to award a penalty kick to Farashganj in the 77th minute and Sohel stepped up to hit the back of the net. (4-2)
