Dhaka, May 14: A clinical performance by Sheikh Russell saw them win 4-0 against Brothers Union in the Grameenphone Bangladesh League second leg match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
A fortunate strike saw Sheikh Russell take the lead in the 34th minute. Midfielder Mejbabul Huq Manik’s regulation goal bound shot from 20 yard was picked by Brothers Union goalie Uttam but the ball bounced out from his grip to hit the left hand sidepost and rolled over the goal line stunning the Brothers tent (1-0).
Sheikh Russell continued to pile up pressure upon the opponents and Cameroonian forward Effiong Duke doubled the margin in the 55th minute. Making his way from the midfield the tall Cameroonian unleashed a fierce drive to beat Uttam in the far post form 20 yards out(2-0).
A frustrated Brothers Union conceded the third in the 69th minute after Effiong Duke
danced down the right flank and cut back for Monaem Khan Raju who placed the ball in the far post from the middle of the box.(3-0).
In the injury time substitute forward Wahed Ahmed struck the fourth from 20 yards with powerful drive.
However the win had no impact upon the position of Sheikh Russell as they remained fourth in the table with 29 points from 15 matches while Brothers Union also remained on the 6th position with 19t points from the same 15 matches.
