Dhaka, May 25: Sheikh Russell climbed to the third spot of the Grameenphone Bangladesh League with a facile 3-1 victory over Arambagh at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Though Sheikh Russell and defending champions Dhaka Abahani have the same number of 35 points but Russell has the superiority goal difference though Sheikh Russell has played one match more than Abahani.
Ghanaian forward Moro Mohammed danced down the left flank in the 26th minute and provided a pass to Russian forward Edward Shaknevich who slammed home with a fierce left footer from the middle of the box.
Subair Mohammed Omobolaji, the Nigerian forward scored the equalizer for Arambagh after a solo effort in the 39th minute.
However Edward Shaknevic put Sheikh Russell ahead again in the 47th minute with powerful header off a Monaem Khan Raju cross in the 47th minute.
A frustrated Arambagh conceded the third in the 69th minute when Edward Shaknevic did the hard work in the left flank and cut it back for unmarked Effiong Duke who had little difficulty to send the ball into the near post.
Sheikh Russell have 35th points while Arambagh have 17 and is positioned eighth in the point table, both have played 17 matches.
