Dhaka, June 6: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club consolidated their position at the top of the table of the Grameenphone Bangladesh League with a 1-0 win over Sheikh Russell KC at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
Cameroonina forward Emmanual Ayuk scored the all important goal. Jamal now has a four point lead over second placed Muktijoddha who however has one match in their hand.
Sheikh Russell threatened Jamal in the opening minutes with Cameroonian forward Effiong Duke twice testing goalie Aminul from the top of the box but Aminul fisted the ball on the first occasion and dived to punch the second for a corner.
Sheikh Jamal took the lead in the 33rd minute off a quick counterattack. Left back Nasir ran down the left flank and curled a measured chip to Emmanual Ayuk in the middle of the six yard box and the Cameroonian forward’s drop header beat Russell goalie Mamun Khan in the near post.
Sheikh Russell mounted pressure in the finishing stage but failed to find their target.
