Dhaka, June 8: Defending champions Dhaka Abahnai rallied back from one goal down to beat Arambagh 2-1 in the Grameenphone Bangladesh League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday. The result was same in the first phase of the league and both Ismail Bangoura, the Guinean forward of Arambagh and Twum Frank the Ghanaian striker of Abahani scored in that match.
Arambagh took the lead against the run of the play in the 13th minute. Liberian forward Benjamin Cooper headed a long throw of midfielder Khaled Saifullah in the middle of the six yard box and unmarked Ismail Bangoura sent the ball in the near post with a side header (1-0).
Abahani restored the parity in the 67th minute off a penalty. Benjamin Cooper in his attempt of clearing a Kievan Sajedi corner saw the ball hit his forehand and referee awarded the penalty. Twum Frank’s penalty hit the sidepost but his Ghanaian compatriot Samad Youssef placed the rebounder in the far post (1-1).
Six minutes before the stipulated finish Abahani forward Robin was sent off as he fouled Cooper in the Arambagh box.
However it charged up Abahani and in the 88th minute Twum Frank headed a Keivan Sajedi corner that deflected off Cooper’s head and landed in the far post net.
Abahani moved up to the third position with 39 points from 18 matches while Arambagh remained on eighth position with 18 points from 19 matches.
