Dhaka, June 16: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club crossed the major hurdle of winning the Grameenphone Bangladesh League with a 3-1 victory over Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Jamal still have to play Brothers Union in the last match and a draw will crown them as the champions.
Emmanuel Ayuk put Sheikh Jamal ahead in the 9th minute beating Mohammedan goalie Titumir with powerful header off a corner from Nigerian winger Femi Orunimi.
Jamal doubled the margin in the 36th minute as overlapping defender Nasir dribbled past three Mohammedan defenders and passed the ball to Ayuk who placed the ball into the net from a close range.
Nnadi Victor, the Nigerian midfielder of Dhaka Mohammedan pulled one back in the injury time of the first half beating Jamal goalie Aminul with powerful shot from 20 yards.
Jamal was reduced to ten men in the 74th minute when Cameroonian midfielder Yoko Samnik was sent off for the second yellow card.
However Shujon converted the penalty in the 84th minute after substitute midfielder Mishu was fouled by Liton in the danger zone.
Sheikh Jamal has 50 points from 21 matches while Mohammedan remained on their previous 29 points and fifth position playing the same number of matches.
