Dhaka, June 25: Muktijoddha Sangsad KC and Arambagh KS won their respective last match of the Grameenphone Bangladesh League in Dhaka on Saturday.
Arambagh’s win saved Farashganj from the relegation of the league while two port city teams Chittagong Mohammedan and Chittagong Abahani Limited dropped down from the Bangladesh League. They have to be played second tier from next season.
At the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Muktijoddha smashed out Rahmatganj by 5-1.
Muktijoddha did take the lead in the 34th minute, courtesy of Mithun Chowdhury, who wrestled control of the ball from Ddumba Michel before placing it past the goalie at the back of the net for his 15th goal of the campaign. (1-0)
Moga made amends for his earlier missed chances in the 55th minute when he broke free down the middle on a Maruf Ahmed pass before slotting home with a clinical finish. That was the 18th goal of the league for the top scorer. (2-0)
The lead was extended in the 62rd minute, courtesy of Nigerian forward Bukola who finished a Moga pass from the right. (3-0)
In the 68th minute, Mithun increased his own tally scoring the fourth of the game with a nicer chip over the advancing keeper. (4-0)
Rahmatganj pulled one back in the 75th minute through Pushbon Molla who took advantage of a fumble from substitute keeper Nehal to tap the ball in the back of the net. (4-1)
Moga sealed the victory in the 84 minute of the match by right footed shot from a solo effort. (5-1)
After this triumph, the all reds completed their league as runners-up with 50 points (One point behind champion Sk Jamal) from 22 matches while Rahmatganj remained eight place with 24 points from the same number of matches.At the BSSM Mostafa Kamal Stadium Bangoura Ismael’s hat-trick helped Arambagh to register 3-2 victory over Chittagong Mohammedan. The Guinean striker scored in the 37th, 39th and 90+2p minute by a penalty while Jerry Odesco scored 34th minute and Jahangir scored 80 minute by a penalty.
After this match, Arambagh collected 27 points while Chittagong Mohammedan kept 17 points. Both teams played 22 matches.
