Dhaka Abahani reach GP Super Cup Final
Dhaka, August 3: Dhaka Abahani beat Muktijoddha by 5-4 goals in the penalty shootout to win the second semifinal of the Grameenphone Super Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Dhaka Abahani will face Dhaka Mohammedan in the final on Saturday.
The stipulated 90 minutes and the extra 30 minutes finished 2-2 and in consequence the fate was decided in the penalties.
Samad Yousif, Abul Hossain, Cletus Blamo, Alfaz Ahmed and Shakhwat Rony scored for Abahani in the shootout while Paul Dammi, Nasiruddin, Arman Aziz and Alamu Bukola scored for Muktijoddha. Alamgir Kabir Rana missed and that made all the difference.
Nigerian forward Alamu Bukola Olalekan put Muktijoddha ahead in the 14th minute after midfielder Motiur Munna fed Bukola with a nice through pass and Bukola beat two defenders and Abahani goalie Sohel form a close range (1-0).
Abahani restored the parity through Robin in the 20th minute as Awudu toe-pocked a forward pass to robin whose angular placing shot beat Biplob and hit the sidepost before hitting the net (1-1).
Midfielder Zahed Parvez put Muktijoddha ahead again three minutes after the break as he hit the far corner of the net off neat left flank cross from Bukola (2-1).
However it was Robin who brought back Abahani into the game again in the 63rd minute. He beat two Muktijoddha defenders and placed the ball in the far post after a solo effort in the left flank (2-2).
