BD finish fourth in SAFF U-16
Dhaka, August 10: Bangladesh went 2-1 down to Nepal in the third place decider of the SAFF U-16 Championship at the Dasrath Stadium, Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Bangladesh were reduced to ten men in the 7th minute as defender Hadisur Rahman deliberately handled the ball to award Nepal a penalty. Heman Gurung converted the spot kick and Hadisur was sent off.
Bangladesh braved the next 82 minutes with ten men and goalie Rakibul saved another penalty in the 38th minute blocking Umesh Thapa’s shot.
Kawsar Ali Rabbi equalized in the 65th minute capiltalising a lapse of Nepalese defence.
But Aditya Chowdhury broke the Bangladesh heart in the 89th minute flicking a free kick of Nepalese skipper Heman Gurung past Bangladesh goalie Rakibul.
Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka 6-2 and drew goalless with Nepal in the group stages, lost 0-2 against Pakistan in the semifinal earlier.
