Bangladesh beat Maldives 8-3
Dhaka, October 8: Bangladesh made a flying start in the 1st South Asian Beach Games football beating Maldives 8-3 at Hambantota, Sri Lanka on Saturday.
Enamul and Abdul Baten Majumder Komol registered hat-tricks while Robin and Mamun Mia netted one goal each.
Robin opened the account in the 2nd minute of the first session but Md. Arshad of Maldives scored the equalizer in the 10th minute as the first session of 12 minutes finished 1-1.
In the second session Komol scored in the 2nd minute but two strikes of Md. Abdullah and Yusuf Omar in the 4th and 6th minute saw Maldives take the lead. But Bangladesh came back strong with Enamul restoring the parity in the 8th minute and Mamun Mia added his lone goal in the 10th minute to see the second session finish on Bangladesh leading by 4-3 goals.
In the third session Bangladesh scored four goals with Maldives scoring none. Enamul added another two in the 2nd and 12th minute while Komol completed his treble with the strikes of 9th and 10th minutes.
In the other match of the day Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 11-2 goals.
Bangladesh faces hosts Sri Lanka at 9:00 am on Sunday and complete the robin league fixture against Nepal at 4:00 pm. The top two teams of the point table play the final on Monday. India is not participating in the event of football.
