Bangladesh wins beach soccer gold
Dhaka, Oct 10: Bangladesh won the title of the event of the beach soccer in the 1st South Asian Beach Games beating hosts Sri Lanka at Hambantota on Monday.
After the stipulated time of 36 minutes and the three sessions of the final finished in a 9-9 tie, the game rolled into the three minutes extra time. No goals were scored in the extra time and in the four shot shootout Bangladesh scored one while Sri Lanka failed to convert any spot kicks.
Abdul Baten Majumder Komol scored a hat-trick in the first session while Ariful Islam, Towhidul Alam amd Md. Robin added one each in the first session. Bangladesh did not score in the second session and Enamul netted twice and Towhid added his second to send the match to the extra time and the shootout.
Tawhid scored for Bangladesh in the shootout.
Earlier Bangladesh defeated Maldives 8-3 in the first match, lost to Sri Lanka 12-4 in the second and beat Nepal 5-1 to enter the final.
