Jamal clinch women's title
Dhaka, October 14: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club emerged as the champions of the Walton Women’s Football League beating Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd by 2-0 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
Jamal midfielder Aung Mra Ching Marma hit the crosspiece from 25 yards in the 9th minute with Mohammedan goalie Sabina standing out of position.
Sheikh Jamal continued to pile up pressure and took the lead in the 27th minute. Tall defender Farhana Khatun hit the net with a low free kick from the top of the box.
Jamal was unfortunate again in the 40th minute as Nubai Ching Marama, the hardworking midfielder saw her power packed long ranger hit the crosspiece.
Mohammedan rarely threatened the Jamal defence as attackers Mahmuda Sharifa and Mainu Marma were closely watched throughout the first half. Midfielder Sui Nu Marma curved a free kick in the 35th minute from 25 yards that slipped off the gloves of Jamal goalkeeper Molly but no Mohammedan forwards were nearby to tap the ball in.
Jamal continued their domination in the second half and Sabina Khatun who missed a couple of easy chances earlier doubled the margin in the 64th minute. Taking control of Mirona long ball the ace forward beat Mohammedan goalie Sabina Akter with an angular placing shot from the left edge of the box.
Sui Nu Pru Marma of Mohammedan was adjudged as the best player, Sabina Khatun of Sheikh Jamal was the highest scorer with 25 goals and Diplai Jubo Sangha received the Fair Play Trophy.
Kazi Salahuddin, the president of BFF distributed the prizes as the chief guest. BFF women’s committee chairman Sirajul Islam Bachchu, deputy chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron, Iqbal bin Anwar Dawn, the deputy director of RB Group, the manufacturer of Walton products were also present.
