Oman thrash Maldives 4-0
Dhaka, October 27: A ten men Oman bounced back to the winning ways beating Maldives 4-0 in the group A of the AFC U-19 qualifiers at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Oman was reduced to ten men in the 23rd minute as defender Nadir Awadh Bashir’s sliding tackle on Maldives forward Guraish at the top of the box prompted Hong Kong referee Ng Kai Lam flash the red card and Nadir had to leave the field.
However Khalid Khalifa broke the deadlock in the 31st minute heading the ball home off a corner of Hatem Khamis who curved the ball form the right hand flag (1-0).
The lead was doubled in the 41st minute through penalty. Maldives defender Ihsan brought Omani forward Saud Khamis down in the box and the referee ordered a spot kick. Haten Khamis converted the penalty (2-0).
Two minutes after the break Oman scored the third through a combined attack. A good work by Saud Khamis in the left flank of the box allowed him to cut a neat pass to Mahmoud Mabrook who tapped the ball into the empty net (3-0).
Substitute forward Mohammed Said Saud converted a penalty in the 86th minute to take the scoreline to 4-0 . The penalty was earned by the default of Maldives defenders who fouled Mohammad Faraz Abduallah in the middle of the box.
Oman earlier lost to Saudi Arabia 4-0 and Maldives lost to Bangladesh by 3-0 margin.
