Oman edge Bangladesh 1-0
Dhaka, November 2: Oman beat hosts Bangladesh 1-0 in the last match of the AFC U-19 group A qualifiers at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Oman ended their campaign with six points from four matches while Bangladesh finished on three points playing the same number of matches.
Bangladesh started lively with skipper Malek testing Oman goalie Juma al Mawali with dipping shot from the top of box but Juma’s agility enabled him to punch the ball for a corner.
However Oman took the lead in the 20th minute off a penalty after defender Rakin brought Mohamed Said Saud in the box and Hatem Khamis scored from the spot (1-0).
Oman led the first half 1-0.
Five minutes after the re-start substitute Bangladeshi forward Masud Rana was sent off after he pulled one Oman player down and subsequently Jordanian referee Suleiman Salameh pointed another spot kick. But Hatem Khamis’s spot kick was punched to safety by Bangladesh goalie Rasel who dived to his right.
Oman also was reduced to ten men in the 74th minute when Mahmood Mabrook Nasib received his second yellow card for a rough tackle on Sifat.
Bangladesh piled up considerable pressure but lacked the finishing touch.
In the 83rd minute Omani forward Yaseen Juma saw his drive kiss the Bangladesh crosspiece.
