Dhaka, December 3:
The curtain of the Bangabandhu SAFF Championship 2009, the South Asian football extravaganza, will be raised today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium with all the countries of the region eager to show their level of improvement.
Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Minister, Ministry of Finance, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, will inaugurate the football carnival, dubbed as the most prestigious tournament in the South Asia. Md. Ahad Ali Sarker, State Minister, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Salman F. Rahman, Vice Chairman, Beximco Group and Kazi Md. Salahuddin, President of South Asian Football Federation will also be present as the special guests.
A short inaugural programme will take place after the conclusion of the first match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Coloured balloons and festoons and a display performed by school students will also mark the occasion.
Beximco group, one of the largest business conglomerates of Bangladesh is the title sponsors Bangabandhu SAFF Championship 2009.
The champion team will receive 50 thousand US dollar while the runners-up will get 2500 thousand. The two losing semi-finalists will be awarded a purse of US Dollars 10000 each.
Reigning champions Maldives, India, Afghanistan and Nepal are in group A and Sri Lanka, Bhutan and host Bangladesh are in group B.
Bangladesh Television will live telecast all the matches including final and semifinals from the Bangabandhu National Stadium. ESPN will also transmit all the matches involving India live along with the semifinals and the final.
Spectators can collect the tickets from stadium ticket counters and also from BFF House before the kick-off of the matches on every match day.
