Hosts Bangladesh started with a bang registering the biggest victory against Bhutan with a 4-1 win in the opening day of the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday. In the seven encounters between the two countries Bangladesh has never won beyond the three goal margin.
Bangladesh started in an attacking mood and Bhutan had no answer to deal with the onslaught. Bangladesh earned three corners within the first three minutes as Enamul and Emily tormented the opposition defence with their attacking instincts.
Overlapping defender Nasir danced down the right flank on a regular basis while Mamunul and Pranotosh arrived as the strong wall of the Bangladesh midfield. Bangladesh duly took the lead in the 11th minute.
Midfielder Uzzal curved the fourth corner from the left flank flag and the dipping ball was cleared by a Bhutanese defender fell to defender Mishu’s feet at the top of the box. His drop shot took a few deflections before Pranotosh tapped it home from handshaking distance.

Emily working hard upfront let down his team in the 37th minute failing to generate power off an Enamul cross and the ball went straight to the lap of Leki.
Bhutan reduced the margin two minutes away from the lemon break when defender Nasir’s clumsy foul on Nawang Dendup prompted referee Srinivashan Suresh to award a penalty. Nawang send Bangladesh custodian Aminul in the wrong way from the spot to hit the back of the net.
Bangladesh came back strong after the resumption and restored the two goal cushion in the 50th minute through Enamul. The crafty forward stabbed home with a glancing header off an Uzzal corner virtually killing the chances of Bhutan.
Bangladesh would have scored the fourth in the 56th minute but Rajani running from the deep of the defence generated too much power to float the ball well of the crosspiece off an Emily minus.
Emily finally found the net in the 72nd minute as Enamul paved the way for the forward from the midfield with a nice through pass and Emily dribbled past the onrushing custodian to hit the far post net with a diagonal shot.
