Wari hold Brothers
Dhaka, January 3: Bangladesh Championship League outfit Wari put up a gallant show holding Bangladesh Premier League Club Brothers Union to a goalless draw in the Grameenphone Federation Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium On Tuesday.
Brothers wasted the first chance of scoring in the 15th minute with Senegalese forward Habib Diouf failing to send the ball past onrushing Wari goalie Shahenshah. Nigerian defender Aboiye Kazem chipped the ball for Diuof.
Wari, who entered the second tier this season hit back in the 29th minute with midfielder Shafikul Islam who saw his shot off a cross from Raju saved for a corner by Brothers custodian Uttam.
Wari was unlucky in the 30th minute as their striker Shahinul Islam’s powerful shot from 20 yards hit the crosspiece.
Wari kept the pressure on and in the 51st Shahinul standing unmarked in the middle of the box rose to head but missed the flight of a neatly curved cross of Robin Hasan.
In the 85th minute Brothers Union’s Nigerian forward Joshua Olalekan placed a deflection past Wari goalie Shahenshah but the goalbound ball was cleared to safety by defender Mokhlesur Rahman.
Brothers Union face Farashganj in their next match while Wari faces Rahmatgnaj.
In another match of the day at BSSM Mostafa Kamal Stadium, Rahmatganj and Farashganj also shared their points with goalless draw.
