Dhaka, January 9: Sheikh
Russell moved into the quarterfinal of the Grameenphone Federation Cup with a
3-0 victory in the group C at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday. With the win Sheikh Russell secured six points from two
matches while Agrani Bank tasted their second consecutive defeat in the same
number of matches. Sheikh Russell took the lead in the 3rd minute when
Cameroonian forward Siankam Emako headed the first goal on a cross that was curved by midfielder Yusuf from the right flank. Agrani Bank’s lone effort came in the 13th minute
when Zahir broke the defence with a Sujon Mahmud through but placed his shot in
the outside net. Yusuf doubled the margin in the 36th minute after
he found the ball in the middle of the box as Bank goalie Niloy fisted a Bappi
cross that was curved from the left flank. Siankam Emako scored the third in the 59th minute
with a solo effort. The tall Cameroonian dribbled past the Bank defence with a
Bukola Olalekan through pass and scored his second with a grounder. Sheikh Russell meets Sheikh Jamal in the last match of the
group on Friday next.
